Coffee Press
Brewed to perfection, every day.
Inspired by Spencer
Nugent.
A redesign of a coffee set — press and grinder — drawing from Spencer Nugent's principles of educational value, engagement, clarity, and user-centred design. The goal: a product people understand the moment they see it.

Guided by Nugent's principles.

Proportional Accuracy

Clarity & Simplicity

Functional Aesthetics

User-Centred Design

From brief to bold form explorations.
Multiple rounds of sketch ideation explored form, handle, and grinder configurations. Spencer Nugent's sketching style guided the expressive, confident line work throughout.

Foam models to digital concepts.
Three foam models were built from the sketch phase to test proportion and grip. These directly informed 3 CAD concepts for both the press and grinder.

Concept 1
Embodies educational aspect. Elegant but simple form. Clarity and purpose.

Concept 3
Complex and elegant form. Draws the user in. Selected as final direction.

Concept 1
Embodies educational aspect. Elegant but simple form. Clarity and purpose.
Every component considered.
Handle
The minimalistic handle was chosen for its clean form and ergonomic function. Chosen over 11 other iterations for its simplicity and grip comfort.

Holder
The chosen holder was selected for its ability to support both the glass carafe and the coffee during use, maintaining stability and structural integrity.

Plunger / Lid
The lid was improved to use fewer slits for sustainability. Only one side is needed when pouring — reducing material use without compromising function.

Grinder Body
The top and bottom body were chosen because their similar forms create a visual union between the two halves. The rounded window engages users when grinding.
Handle iteration sketches

Colour guided by yellow paint theory.
Blue and yellow were selected using the yellow paint theory — users instinctively follow the yellow element to the next step in the process, making the product intuitive to use.

Designed for manufacture.
Full engineering drawings were produced for all components of both the coffee press and grinder, following standard dimensioning conventions.

Borosilicate Glass Carafe
Heat-resistant, clarity lets you monitor the brew.
Stainless Steel Plunger & Frame
Durable, rust-resistant, hygienic brewing experience.
ABS Plastic Body
Lightweight, easy to clean and mould — practical for manufacturing.
Ceramic Burrs (Grinder)
Exceptional durability, consistent grinds, optimal flavour extraction.
Chosen for function and feel.

Brew a Day × Sketch a Day.
The brand draws from Spencer Nugent's Sketch-A-Day concept — applying the idea of daily practice to coffee brewing. The logo represents the journey from bean to cup to coffee stain.

Born to brew.
A complete coffee set, designed to engage.
